French Farmhouse, Painting of Provence

SOLD

Le Mas Trille , original oil, 16 by 20 inches on gallery-wrapped canvas

This is another older painting that I did of an incredibly charming farmhouse in the south of France. The giclees of this painting are no longer available, and so I have decided to sell the original. The photo does not do this painting justice. The poppies and sunflowers in the foreground were done with thick impasto and jump right out at the viewer, and the bright colors in the foreground soften to a peach-tinted airiness as the scene receeds.

I am offering this original painting for the low starting bid of only $99.00. If you have any interest in this painting, you can go here to bid on it.

Through a Tuscan Window

SOLD
"Through a Tuscan Window", 14 by 18 inches, Oil over acrylic on canvas

This is one of my older paintings, and though not indicative of my current painting style, it will appeal to anyone with a whimsical heart, because of the subject matter. Looking through an arched window that is lined with grapevines, leaves, and ripened grapes, one can see a tiny Tuscan village, with a church at its heart and the hills of Tuscany stretching far out into the distance. A meandering stream wanders lazily through the village and the architecture is reminiscent of the ancient villages of Umbria and beyond.

Self Portrait- A vacation in Paradise

" Self-Portrait"- 12 by 16, oil on panel

A few years back when I was running a successful dance school, non-profit ballet company and dance boutique I sometimes felt that if I had to do one more thing, or wear one more hat, it would finish me off for good. In those days, the only reprieve I had from a very crazy life were the infrequent vacations we would take once or twice a year. Recently, I was going through some old photos of past vacations and came across a picture of myself sitting pensively on the terrace of the beautiful resort Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia. I decided to paint a self -portrait of the moment, just for fun. Since I was sitting against a boring wall, I decided to arrange the painting to include the gorgeous scenery directly behind me, as seen in this photo, rather than the wall...

I also changed my hair style in the painting to the shorter , curlier style that I began sporting after I sold my school and no longer had to wear my hair in a bun in compliance with my own dress code.

I tried to recall what I was thinking about in the photo, but it could have been anything from "I don't know how much longer I can stay on this treadmill!", to "I wonder what we'll eat for dinner?" At any rate, I had to digest the painting for a little while and today I added some parrot plants for color, and changed the background foliage a bit as well as the water's color. I think it's better than it was and a pretty good representation of myself, so I think I'll leave it alone for good.

Garden by the Sea, 18x 24, $49.00

SOLD

"Seaside Garden", 18 by 24 inches, oil on gallery-wrapped canvas

My sister has a print in her house, that I admire each and every time that I see it. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the talented artist's name, or whether or not there is a name on the print, but the picture always has a soothing influence over me. It is of a scene similar to the one above, with a little table laden with a flower arrangement atop a dainty-looking tablecover. Nearby, a path from the garden takes one to the brink of a turquoise-colored sea. The serenity I have always felt when viewing that picture, prompted me to attempt to paint one of my own, and although I have been told that my colors are far too wild to be calming, I am hoping that the scene above will prove the naysayers wrong.

If you would like to purchase this painting, it is being offered for the very low starting bid of only $49.00. Please go here to bid on it.

Frangipani, a tropical flower of Hawaii

SOLD

I painted this frangipani a while back, but I was not satisfied with it, and so I didn't offer it for sale at the time. Yesterday, I pulled it out and made some changes to the background, so that the flowers weren't competing with the backdrop for attention. This was painted from life, from a plant in my back yard.

For anyone not familiar with this plant-the frangipani is a rare, exotic flower that grows abundantly in Hawaii , where the Hawaiians construct lovely leias from the flowers to wear around their necks. Perfume is also made from the flower and the sap that exudes from the plant's long branches can actually burn the skin if a careless pruner prunes the tree incorrectly.

Wine Country painting finished version

Well, I know that some artists can turn out a painting every day without a problem. I have found that although I paint every single day, I am never able to be satisfied with a one day finishing. For me, a painting needs a little time to be digested, sort of like a good meal. If you rush the meal, you get indigestion.

I wasn't happy with this painting because the top portion seemed less developed than the bottom. So I went in and made some changes, which I think have helped a bit. It is finished now, though, because I simply can't paint over dry paint without making a mess. I do wish I had had the good fortune to attend art school. Learning through one's mistakes at my age is good for one's character, but hard on one's confidence. I am definitely struggling lately.
