"Strasbourg Canal 2-Le Petite France", 16x20
(Note, you can click on the painting for better detail- this painting took a tremendous amount of paint! It was done with palette knife only and there are thick layers of impasto, hence the cost.)
I have painted this quaint little scene before, in warmer tones, see my blog post
here.
That painting has sold so I decided to try another one, this time in cooler tones as better depicting the cooler light temperature the day that I took the photo from the bridge.

Strasbourg is a fascinating city in eastern France, not too far from Germany's border. I wrote about some of my experiences there in my earlier blog post; go here to read. It has a section called Le Petite France (Little Paris) that is utterly charming. There are cobblestoned pathways, foot bridges laden with flowers and ancient buildings teetering precariously towards the canal that runs through the village. Strasbourg also has an ancient cathedral of Notre Dame that is supposedly haunted. Or at least this is what this dancing witch told me!

As she danced in front of Notre Dame, my hubby and I enjoyed a beer. If you are going to Heidelberg, I'd recommend the hour trip west to visit this enchanting little city.

Strasbourg is also the location of one of the famous European Parliament buildings, known as the Louise Weiss building. Below on the right is an illustration of that building in
Strasbourg France, which includes a tower that appears to be unfinished. Below on the left is a painting done in 1563 of the Tower of Babel, by
Pieter Brueghel the Elder, a Flemish Northern Renaissance Painter.

Note the similarities in the two structures!
Interestingly, I found this poster produced by the European Union symbolically depicting their mission. It combines the 12 stars of the EU flag with what appears to be the Weiss building, with the motto
Europe: Many Tongues One Voice. Seeing it next to the
Brueghel painting, one wonders if they have tried to re-create the Tower of Babel!
