SOLD "A Contemplative Moment", 16x12, oil on canvas
This study of trees and their reflections came out better than I would have expected. It has a soft , dreamy quality about it that I never could have obtained with a palette knife. I am continuing to try to hone my skills with a brush so that I can achieve the soft effects like what you see above. Please let me know what you think.

Today I decided to offer this very creepy painting, which was exhibited at Art Center Sarasota's weird exhibit, "Masquerade, Mystery and Mischief" this past summer, for only $99 to illustrate how ludicrous the holiday of Halloween actually is. Ludicrous, because this painting is well worth $600-$800 based on my current price structure, and ludicrous because no one in their right mind would want a painting like this unless they are a little bit Skitzo! Halloween is my least favorite holiday of all time, since I detest anything that has to do with the dark side, and especially vampires, devils, demons, witches and ghosts, but nonetheless I realize that a good creepy painting once in a while complete with a full moon, pink tree, hidden symbols, werewolf's lake and Dr. Jekyll's own hideaway cottage might garner some interest among free SPIRITS. Here's what I wrote about it a few months ago, in case anyone's interested. Otherwise, steal this deal of a painting quick before it DISAPPEARS forever into the nether world, by using the PayPal button below!
This painting, which I titled "Dr. Jeckyl's Hyde-away" was a spontaneous adventure for me. I had no idea what I was going to paint one day, and I just started massing in shapes , until an impression of something began appearing on the canvas. Then as I started adding odd colors like purple and orange, the whole painting began to take on a Halloween-like atmosphere. In truth, this is one heck of a mysterious Creature of Jekyll Island kind of painting. I've been to Jeckyll Island by the way, and I have no idea how the supposed wealthy conspirators and their fussy wives could put up with the heat, humidity and mosquitoes long enough to concoct a conspiracy! Whether or not you believe in conspiracies, or have faith in the Federal Reserve System is irrelevant to me. I'm just trying to sell a creepy painting. By the way, Jekyll Island is actually a very nice getaway, in spite of the bugs, and although I didn't stay in the upscale Jekyll Island Club Hotel, I found the Villas by the Sea Resort quite nice, with a lovely beach covered with interesting vegetation and gorgeous old oaks. Anyhow, if this painting does not sell this week, I'll probably enter it into Art Center Sarasota's upcoming exhibit titled: "Masquerade, Mystery and Mischief"-"In this exhibition artists are invited to submit works of art in all media exploring mysteries, disguise, the theatrical, mischief, frivolity adventure, the strange and forbidden. In this exhibition as in the Masquerade… normal rules don’t apply!"
I doubt that I'll ever be able to paint anything this creepy again, so if you want this painting to hang in your own personal hideaway, please use your toxic currency, courtesy of the FED, to purchase it below through Paypal, which sucks, by the way, but what other choices do we have when we want to buy something quick before anyone else nabs it?

"Lake of the Woods, Autumn vista", 16x12, oil on masonite-$750
I took yesterday's quick plein air study and applied it to today's more refined piece in the studio. I was very happy with the result. This painting is definitely moving in the direction that I wish to go- which is after my true love-Classic Impressionism. Here is the scene that I painted which is in my very own Florida neighborhood. You can read about the study here.
I'll be headed off to Denver to the American Impressionist Society's 10th annual juried show at the Saks Gallery this Friday the 23rd. The reception is 5 to 8PM, and I do hope that my Denver collectors will join me there for a special evening of gorgeous art! In addition to looking forward to being inspired by the magnificent works of the top Impressionists of today's world, I also am planning a trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park for more inspiration! I can't wait! Jeez.
Life is good. Amen and thank you Lord!

The weather is 30 degrees colder this week than it was last week, and for me it is a wonderful change! I have been looking forward to plein air painting again, but with the temperatures in the mid nineties and high humidity throughout last week, I had been reluctant to venture out. Today I went out around 4:30 this afternoon and determined to paint this little lake study in just one hour. It is a scene that I walk frequently- around the central lake in my neighborhood, and the water reflections are always wonderful- especially with the colorful terra cotta roofs within our neighborhood.
This is definitely one of those impressionist paintings that makes absolutely no sense until you step backwards a few yards! I made the reddish/pink roof the focal point in what was otherwise a low contrast painting that was done in mostly mid value range and used color to turn the planes. I finished it in the one hour and although the light had already changed from when I arrived, I made certain not to meddle with the first notes and that way I kept out of trouble. When I got home I wanted to work it some more in order to refine the shapes adn details, but I resisted the temptation in order to keep the freshness and spontaneity of the alla prima painting. So I signed it and called it done. I'm looking forward to more good weather and more plein air painting in the days to come!
"Antique Copper, gourds, and Acorn and Pumpkin", 10x8, oil on wrapped canvas-$99
I haven't done a still life in quite a while so I decided to do one with an autumn theme. I set up some miniature gourds and an old copper thingamajing (don't know what it is- too small to be a pot and too large to be a cup!), and played around with the light source. In the end, I decided to balance the painting out with a blue pitcher on the right, and omit the fancy antique cloth behind the gourds.

"French Creek at Birchrunville, Pa", 16x12, oil on canvas-$650
This is a smaller version of a painting I did a few years ago which I titled "God's Palette". It depicts a tributary of the French Creek in Chester County, Pa. right off Hollow Rd. at the Sheeder Hall Bridge in Birchrunville. A favorite fishing and picnic spot of my husband and I in the days when we lived in Chester Springs, (see photo below) I invariably grow home sick for the place around October when the fall colors appear in all of their bewitchment. Birchrunville was an easy bike ride from my old home and is home to a fabulous post office/ gourmet restaurant, gorgeous gentlemen's farms, and of course the French Creek's babbling waters. It has an annual fourth of July parade that is second to none for its quaintness and quirkyness.
This painting was done with palette knife only and contains thick impasto strokes of vibrant color. It can be purchased for $650 by using the PayPal button below.

SOLD "Go Smell the Flowers", 9x7, oil on canvas panel-$99
I have been so busy lately that it's been hard for me to find time to either paint, dance, or smell the flowers!
Today, I worked all morning on things I don't like to do, made a dinner that could cook all day, turned on Whisperings solo piano music, and made up my mind to finish this painting which I started two weeks ago! The title for the painting was easy, and as it turns out, there is also a book by the same name, "Go Smell the Flowers". The book is by a couple who resigned from corporate to see the places they’d always wanted to see.
I can totally relate. It is so important to take a break from the rat race in order to connect or re-connect with all that's important in life, which for me has always been God, family and health.
I'm glad I took a break today and finished this painting! If you would like to purchase this painting as a reminder of how important it is to stop and smell the flowers, just use the PayPal button below.

SOLD "Lady in White-after Sorolla", 7x9, oil on canvas panel
After a hectic week in which I found little time to paint, I resolved to at least paint a quick study today. A few months ago I ordered a beautiful book on Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla from the Barnsite Gallery. I am ashamed to say that I had not had time to even look at it until today. The book is gorgeous and well worth the price . Since I never went to art school, but know how important it is to study the works of the masters, I decided to paint this lady in white after Sorolla's painting "Beach". In attempting to render in the artist's style one realizes the genius of the man. I feel truly humbled.
I think I shall continue to try to study this incredible painter in the days and weeks to come.
SOLD "The Svinkloev Hotel- Denmark"- 24x18, oil on linen
Nestled among sand dunes overlooking the Baltic Sea in Northern Denmark, The Svinklov Badehotel is a popular destination for travelers , as well as Danish locals. The reference photo depicted the hotel in what I am guessing was a late afternoon setting, and the hotel was bathed in a warm light, as were the dunes that were not in shadow. I pushed the color quite a bit and worked the sky to add drama to the quiet, picturesque setting. Here is the reference photo where you can see the warm colors that have infused the scene:

I was delighted to find out today that I have won a merit award for "Simple Gifts", at Art Center Sarasota's new exhibit, "Show us what you've got!" This is the first time I have received a ribbon at Art Center Sarasota, and I hope it won't be the last. This is the third ribbon that "Simple Gifts" has won!
