"Allegro", 11x14, oil on linen by Maryanne Jacobsen, paintings of dancers, modern dance, contemporary dance

"Allegro", 11x14, oil on linen

I haven't done any serious painting in a long while. Blame it on the methane fumes in the Gulf of Mexico, or the fact that I have not been feeling very inspired recently, thanks to wordly conditions. That being said, I do pray everyday, and today the Lord allowed me to finish this painting of a ballerina dancing a contemporary piece.

I love ballet. It is so beautiful. But there is something incredibly strong and athletic in contemporary dance that is a bit harder to detect in ballet, which when done correctly appears so effortless that strength and athleticism become invisible to the untrained eye.

Not sure if any of that makes sense. At any rate, I miss ballet class. Hopefully there's a ballet class somewhere in heaven, waiting for me, with my bunions and bad knees, and taught by Margarita de SaĆ”, my favorite teacher, ballerina extraordinaire, and a beautiful and compassionate human being as well.

Maryanne, she is stunning! You captured movement, strength, light and grace. Sorry to hear you are not feeling up to par these days, but the art that does flow from you, never gives a hint. This is an amazing piece!

Hope you feel perkier soon.
