"Autumn Still Life", 12x16, oil on linen, paintings of sunflowers, Ukranian national flower, peace, peace for Ukraine, still life with sunflowers

"Autumn Still Life", 12x16, oil on linen

I have always loved sunflowers. They never fail to cheer me up when they are in my house. I buy a bunch of sunflowers every other week and keep them in my kitchen to keep me company when I cook.

The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and in support of the Ukrainians, artists are encouraged to blast social media with paintings of sunflowers. So don't be surprised to see a lot of sunflower paintings in the days ahead.

Let us pray that this conflict will be short, and that peace will be permanent.

"David's Sunflowers", 24x24, oil on board

"David's Sunflowers", 24x24, oil on board

This was a commissioned piece and is not for sale. The person requested these "muted" colors and based upon my mood lately, I can appreciate the subtlety. I used a limited palette and omitted the warm reds and greens entirely. It's rather Van Gogh-esque, I suppose.

Please contact me if you would like to commission a painting. My email address is maryannejacobsen@aol.com.

A Year in Provence

"A Year in Provence", 12x24, oil on masonite

"Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

{CHORUS}
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Ah... Ah..."

Somehow, every time I look at this painting, I think of the Beatles' 1969 hit, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".

Sure, there's marmalade skies in this painting, but there's certainly no boat on the river there or even a girl with sun in her eyes! However, this painting does have many, many wonderful elements in it- the mountains of Provence, lavender fields, an old French farmhouse and even sunflowers in the foreground! Anyhow, I truly love this painting, and it has gone into many art shows over the past year or so since I first painted it. I recently decided that I need to let go and sell some of my favorite paintings in order to challenge myself to do even better work in the future, so if you like this painting, here is your opportunity.

If you have any interest in purchasing this painting, please send me an email at maryannejacobsen@aol.com. I am also willing to sell it professionally framed as well, (for an additional charge, since it is a custom frame), if someone is wanting to receive it in a custom frame ready to hang. Here is a picture of the framed piece below:

This painting has incredible depth and texture that a computer screen can simply not measure. It was painted thoughtfully with palette knife only, over a period of time. I hope you enjoy it!

Field of Gold

SOLD"Field of Gold", 12x16, oil on canvas panel
(Note: Click on the photo to see the thick passages of impasto)

I decided to do another sunflower painting today, since nothing makes me smile more than a bunch of sunflowers jumping right out at me. They are natural smile-breakers- with their golden color and sunny nature- shaped like the sun itself, but crafted under the Master's own imaginative hand.

This time I went for a modified limited palette and I did not tone my canvas. Interesting- the pros and cons of both methods. Toning the canvas makes painting much easier- there is no question about that, but I feel it does impact on the vibrancy of the color overall. Any way, this one was done a little larger and in a vertical format. Lots of very thick, juicy paint in this one. A happy painting overall, just waiting to make some wall very happy!

This painting is currently in an exhibit. Please email me if you wish to have purchase information about this piece.
