"Poolside Arrangement", 9x12, oil on panel, oranges, red roses, fruit basket, poolside floral, garden party, little gems, small paintings for sale

"Poolside Arrangement", 9x12, oil on panel

Years ago I painted a larger version of this scene for a gallery and it sold right away. I decided to do a smaller version of the same scene, because it is so very pretty! I set up the fruit basket and bouquet of roses on a table right next to our pool one day. I loved the contrast of vivid colors and the shadow design that the basket made in the sun. The painting began outdoors and I finished it inside because I wanted to preserve the shadow pattern.

This sweet little painting would make a lovely gift that brings sunshine into a home every day of the year!

It is being sold for $300.00 through my website. Click here to purchase.

"The Gift Basket", 16x20, orchids, fruit, fruit basket, still life, eggs, wine, Leonard Cohen, MAryanne JAcobsen art

"The Gift Basket", 16x20

This is a re-do of a painting that I did awhile back. Not sure if I'm happy with it but I did enjoy painting it. Listened to the Essential Leonard Cohen CD while I painted. Now that man was a true artist!

"Country Cupboard", 12x16, oil on linen

"Country Cupboard", 12x16, oil on linen

This is an older painting that I took out and re-worked a bit yesterday. I had trouble photographing it, and am starting to think I need a lesson in photography! Since I bought a new camera a few months ago, I have not had much success photographing my artwork. I am using a Nikon Coolpix 14.1 megapixels. Weirdly, my old Kodak with only 6 megapixels seemed to do a better job and have more range of color. This camera seems to have a mind of its own and takes pictures randomly, even when I am not pressing the button. The pictures never seem right to me and do not do the artwork justice. The area in the center is always clear and the perimeter is fuzzy. I could really use some help, I don't even understand the menu!

Any suggestions anyone?

"Summer Kitchen, evening", 12x16, oil on linen by Maryanne Jacobsen

"Summer Kitchen, evening", 12x16, oil on linen by Maryanne Jacobsen

Sometimes I force myself to do paintings like this one. I know I won't enjoy it , but it's like doing your homework or eating liver- you know it's good for you.

This was especially hard, because I had to paint sitting down. For me, painting sitting down is like dancing with one foot in a cast. It's restrictive, it's crippling, it's horrible.

However, because of the set-up that I composed, I had no choice. I used my antique cupboard as the basis for the set-up and because of limited space and lighting restrictions, I had to compose the set-up in a way that was feasible to paint. So I had to paint sitting down.

Here's the set-up:

I may work on this a bit more tomorrow. I don't know. I'm kind of sick of it because I've been working on it for a few days. At any rate, I learned a lot from doing this painting. I feel more at ease with folds in tablecloths, now. I decided not to put in all the florals in the cloth pattern , because I thought it would be too busy.

This is a northeastern kind of painting. It would have looked very nice in my Pennsylvania farmhouse in Chester Springs. It's not going to fit in with my Florida home. I had to give away all my milk jugs when I moved to Florida. What a pity. I picked this one up pretty cheap while I was in Maine. Lucky me.

So this painting will need to find another home where it will fit in nicely. Let me know what you think of it.

Simple Gifts, 16x20, oil on linen

"Simple Gifts"- 16x 20, oil on linen

Simple gifts seemed an appropriate name for this painting, which I thankfully finally finished today! The fruit basket, eggs, wine and orchids all seemed to indicate the sense of bounty and overall prosperity that we as a nation sometimes take for granted in these United States. I do hope the painting imparts a sense of thankfulness to viewers as well. We are truly fortunate to have what we have, despite rising gas prices and a falling dollar.

May everyone have a thankful, joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving!
