"Canal Walk", 10x12, oil on linen
This scene is the towpath along the Delaware canal in historic Lambertville, N.J. The canal runs parallel to the Delaware River and is part of the Delaware Canal State Park. I took some liberties with the scene and added the figure and dog for interest.
Lambertville is a lovely little city across the Delaware river from beautiful New Hope, Pa. Both New Hope and Lambertville offer ample opportunities for tourists or locals to enjoy shopping, art galleries, antique hunting, fine dining, or just walking along the Victorian streets or towpaths of the river.
I took the reference photo for this painting on a beautiful autumn day in October. The light was warm and brilliant.
Here is the reference photo that I used.
As you can see, I changed the color of the building in the background and although I liked the cluster of women at the end of the path, they were too small to be an added interest. So I added the man walking his dog, because it's a perfect place to walk one's dog. (or cat!)If you are interested in the painting, just send me an email at maryannejacobsen@aol.com.
