Cloudy Day at Sharky's on the Beach- plein air, alla prima, by Maryanne Jacobsen

SOLD"Cloudy Day at Sharky's on the beach", 12x9, oil on Raymar panel

As you can probably tell, the light temperature was very gray the day that I painted this, with a cool light and limited value and contrast range. What was very cool about this day, however, were the whitecaps on the water, (an aftermath of Hurricane Ida), which are atypical for the Gulf Coasts' typically serene aquamarine waters.

When painting plein air, I happen to love days like this, when you don't have to chase the light every fifteen minutes, and deal with the enormous range in values that you can get in Florida on very sunny days.

The above painting was done a few months ago, and I am reposting it because I have simply not had the time to paint much recently. I am hoping that will change soon! Last night was a reception for the "Wide World of Animals" exhibit at the North Port Art Center. I was very pleased to receive a third place ribbon in this show, for "Warm and Cozy" as the exhibit was stellar and the competition was fierce.
