"Windblown Cypress, Pinnacle Point", 16x28, oil on board
I was very happy to receive a Third place award last week at the Venice Art Center's "Branchin' Out" exhibit, featuring- trees! That makes three ribbons in one month!
Trees are a wonderful subject to paint, and the windblown cypress trees at Point Lobos State Preserve in Carmel California are a personal favorite subject of mine.
This painting is very dramatic in person and would make a stunning addition to any wall. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please send me an email at maryannejacobsen@aol.com.

"Morning Chill", 9x12, oil on linen, plein air , Coverdale Farm Preserve, Greenville, Delaware, Delaware Nature Society, Visual Art Center, Punta Gorda, Bill Farnsworth, red barns, autumn landscapes, harvest, award-winning art, MAryanne Jacobsen art
SOLD
"Morning Chill", 9x12, oil on linen, plein air (aka "October Morning")
This was painted on a frosty cold (29 degrees) morning at Coverdale Farms, near Wilmington , Delaware, during the Plein Air Brandywine Valley event last month. Coverdale Farms is a non-profit organization run by the Delaware Nature Society and it's a lovely place for artists to find inspiration. Red Barns, sheep, roosters, haybales- you name it. They were all there the morning I went there to paint, and the only dilemma was figuring out which scene to choose.
I finally chose to stand on the hill overlooking a red barn, spent cornfields and autumn-dipped trees, where a thermos of hot coffee kept my fingers from freezing while I painted.
Although I was seriously cold that morning, the funny thing about plein air painting is that you pretty much loose yourself in the moment and kind of forget your discomfort as you attempt to capture that all too fleeting light in the short span of maybe an hour or so.
Recently I entered the painting into the "Harvest of Art" exhibit and fall festival at the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. There are many fun events that the art center is sponsoring in conjunction with the exhibit, so check out the info here if you enjoy Harvest celebrations in conjunction with beautiful art.
I was pleased to receive a merit award for this painting by juror, Bill Farnsworth, a very accomplished award-winning artist, who was this year's juror of awards. You can check out Bill's website here. The painting is available for purchase for $750. You can contact the art center directly to purchase or just send me an email at maryannejacobsen@aol.com.

"Peaches and Cream", 16x20, oil on linen, paintings of fruit, roses, peaches, blue, award-winning art, Maryanne Jacobsen , impressionism
"Peaches and Cream", 16x20, oil on linen
I painted this one a while back and at the last minute I decided to enter it into the Venice Art Center's "Tutti Fruitti" competition. The only requirement was that fruit be included in the design.
I was pleased to find out that the painting received an honorable mention in the exhibit last month. I was in very good company on the wall with the ribbons as Hodges Soileau won first place, Bill Farnsworth won second and Jeff Cornell won third. My friend and avid plein air painter Karen Hitt also received an honorable mention. It was a great show with hundreds of entries so I was pleased to receive a ribbon. Thanks to Judge Diane Mannion for choosing this painting for a ribbon.

Mr. Clucky in Miami,12x16
SOLD
"Mr. Clucky in Miami", 16x12, oil on canvas
I was pleased to find out that my lucky Mr. Clucky was chosen one of the TOP 100 in Paint America's annual national competition. So he'll be going on tour this year around the United States!
Last week Mr. Clucky also took a ribbon at The Windsor at Lakewood Ranch's third annual invitational art show , and he was juried into the American Impressionist Society's annual exhibit last fall, so he has been a good luck charm for me.

To see more of the top 100 winners, please visit Paint America's website here.

Colle Verde Vineyard-Summer
SOLD
"Colle Verde Vineyard-Summer"-24x36, oil on canvas
Back in the spring, I was invited to participate in the Venice Art Center's annual plein air festival.
The evening of the reception I was approached by some people who asked me if I would be interested in doing a satellite exhibit for the art center at some of downtown Venice's business venues. Venice is a lovely tourist town , and I felt very honored to have been asked to do a personal exhibit for the sponsors. Recently, I was informed that my first exhibit in this venue will be at Back Eddy's Bistro, on the island in downtown Venice. On Friday evening the hubby and I had one of the most memorable meals we have had in ages at Back Eddy's. The food was absolutely scrumptious cuisine, (I had the salmon in dill and he had the duck), but the dinner also gave me an opportunity to view the wall space- which is quite expansive, and try to plan on what paintings will be placed on exhibit.

I realized that evening, that I need some BIG pieces! So I immediately started painting on Saturday morning. I painted a new version of "Colle Verde Vineyard" , after a recent award winning painting, only I made it warmer to reflect the summer light in Tuscany.
Tomorrow is a new day, and I'll probably get up and decide whether or not to include this painting in the exhibit. In the meanwhile, I am enjoying painting on a larger format these days, thanks to a recent commission and this new exhibit venue, and although I have been using tons of paint doing these big pieces, I do love the bigger formats for expressive palette knife work.
Please let me know what you think, too!
