This is the first painting I have been able to do in about a year, so I feel  grateful I was able to turn it out.

I have compression fractures in my spine that greatly affect my ability to paint now. So although it took 2 days and a lot of rest in between brushstrokes, I was able to finish it.

Sometimes it is good to just experiment. There is a liberating quality about not caring too much how a painting will come out.

In this case, I took a painting that was unsuccessful and  covered it with an orangish wash. Then I just used my imagination to create some semblance of forms and.... Voila! A painting is made.

I didn't fret over value, color or edges. I just painted.

While this is not a masterpiece, it proves to me that 'letting go' is a good thing on my artistic journey.

I was very happy to receive a Third place ribbon at the reception last week at The Visual Art Center's "Color" exhibit.

I loved the way these two compliments played against each other as I painted this. I opted for cooler reds throughout, which made the warmer greens pop.

I guess with Christmas right around the corner, I had red and green on my mind.

I painted this one recently from life and found it challenging. The grapes, the wine glass, the roses- nothing about this painting came together easily for me.

Did you ever notice that that's how it is with art? Some pieces sort of fall together without effort and then there are those that we just persevere with until we get a somewhat satisfying outcome.

At least I was happy with this outcome after messing with it a few thousand times.

This was such a joy to paint today after the last two weeks.

Never mind what that means!

Sometimes it's important to just paint what you love, and in the manner in which you are comfortable!

Then it's easy and the result is satisfactory. For this one I changed up my palette a bit. I used yellow ochre, cad yellow pale, can orange, napthol red, permanent rose, cobalt violet, ultramarine blue, king's blue and  viridian. I am going to be tempted to go back into it tomorrow and re-work some of the passages, but I think I'll force myself to let it alone, since it looks loose and impressionist.

"Quiet Elegance" received the Judges Award last week at the opening of the Harvest of Art exhibition at the visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. This is Charlotte County's oldest and most prestigious annual juried exhibit, and will be the 24th year for the Harvest of Art. I had just joined the art center, so I was delighted to receive this award. Muchu Gracias to the judge!
